PENNY'S PAW PANTRY

Bringing resources and supplies to collegiate pet owners and spreading awareness of animal health and wellbeing to caretakers.

WHO WE ARE

Penny's Paw Pantry collects monetary and physical donations for the care of colligate pets and then distributes them to students in need with pets for free. Physical items we collect are toys, food supplies, hygiene products, and general care items. Monetary donations will go to buying wholesale items. Along with supply services we distribute proper care information to anyone who attends a giveaway or goes onto our Animal Care Page.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Penny’s Paw Pantry aims to help those in need by offering resources for college students’ pets. College students have a tremendous amount of stress put on them to do well, and a lot of them also have financial struggles. According to the American College Health Association, 58.4% of students have reported feeling overwhelming anxiety. Other current studies show that animals can help with stress and feelings of anxiety and depression, so multiple colleges have started to implement programs that offer students access to play with dogs or cats to help relieve stress. However, that isn’t the case for all colleges, and students are left to buy and care for their pets. Therapy animals have provided relief to students, but the expenses of owning a pet can be taxing, so being able to help students find and care for animals, primarily through providing food and other necessities, is important to us. Even if students aren’t able to use donation services, we find it essential to provide useful information about animals and how to take care of them. When information is provided to best take care of animals, different veterinary expenses can be avoided, decreasing financial and emotional stress on their owners.
